Building a fully functional web application is hard.

It's overwhelming. There are so many choices! Is Rails the right choice? How do you install a theme or template? How do you manage users? How do I collect payments?

You would love it if there was a step-by-step guide to feed you those answers ...even if you have barely written much Ruby code.

What if you could open the code editor of your choice and build your own application? What if you knew exactly what Ruby gems to include to send emails to your client? You could develop your own application in months, not years!

Months may seem like a long time but, with enough practice, you will be building Rails apps in weeks! How awesome would that super-power be?

This book will guide you from your very first rails commands all the way to deploying your app to a cloud provider. You'll be mastering a Rails application, getting customers and monetizing your existing knowledge in no time!

You will learn step-by-step with an experienced Rails application developer over your shoulders, giving you all of the tips.

Just imagine the application you want to build and start reading this book and, you'll be on your way to creating the application you have always wanted to make.

No Toy Apps Here

One thing you might notice in other programming books is that you will be building a storefront, Twitter Clone, or some other toy app.

This book is not like that. You will be building a Daily Standup Application. This app will:

  • Record tasks and blockers daily.
  • Email reminders and email daily recaps.
  • Update pages in real-time.
  • Have multiple plans and collect monthly subscriptions.

No BS. No Fluff. Even if you don't release this app, every business could use a Daily Tracker. So can yours!

Worried the material won't help you build a complex application? I am currently running Status Cat using the very same code and techniques from the book.

You'll be connecting to GitHub to learn how to authenticate with those APIs, accessing their data and receiving Webhook Activity. With Analytics you will want to know what your users are doing within your application. What analytic provider should you be using and how do you implement them?
  • 12. Speeding up Rails: It's not all unicorns and rainbows when your application is now built out. Here you will learn where to avoid common pitfalls that slow down your application as well as ways to cache information.
  • 13. Deploying: With your application ready for the world how will you deploy it? This chapter will guide you through deployment on Heroku and the optimal Heroku setup.
